More Than a Secretary
(USA, 1936)

Comedy/Romance, 80 min, b/w

Directed by: Alfred E. Green
Cast: Jean Arthur, George Brent, Lionel Stander, Ruth Donnelly, Reginald Denny, Dorothea Kent

A very naive, straight-laced young woman falls in love with the playboy editor of the magazine she works for

Jean Arthur's charm gives distinction to routine comedy of secretary in love with boss George Brent. In the scene of our attention, Dorothea Kent comes marching into George Brent's office, thanking him for all he's done for her, and that she loves working for a new boss. Then Jean Arthur comes inside the office with today's paper, asking why George Brent put something in the paper, a scandal of some sort. When Dorothea Kent Kent makes an unwise remark, Jean Arthur says: "Maise, I'd be wanting to do this since I first saw you, you're a pest and a menace." With those words, Jean Arthur puts Dorothea Kent right over her knees and gives her 12-13 spanks to the seat of her shirt. Jean Arthur is then told that she can have George Brent, as Dorothea Kent has started working for another boss. George Brent informs Jean Arthur that the only reason he made the scandal in the paper, causing Jean Arthur to look ridiculous, was that it was the only way to make her come back. They get back together, marries, and we have a happy ending - both for us and Dorothea Kent's cute little bottom !
