Plot Summary for
Look for the Silver Lining

This musical biopic chronicles the vaudeville-to-Broadway story of 1920s' star Marilyn Miller (June Haver). From her start on the boards in Finley, Ohio, Marilyn sings and dances her way to Broadway stardom, frequently in company with her mentor, dancer Jack Donahue (Ray Bolger

Starring June Haver and Gordon MacRae. The lovely June Haver is offered the part in a play but refuses because she thinks it's not good enough for her. Gordon MacRae informs her that the part calls for an actress anyway, not a singer and dancer. She is unhappy about this and slaps his face. He puts her over his knees, and in full view of the camera, he start spanking her. 10-11 times his hand has the honor of landing over the seat of her shirt. She wriggles and yells all through the spanking and tells him: "it hurts". The spanking is interupted by the housemaid who informs them that the director is on the phone. June Haver is still laying over Gordon Macrae's knee. By now June has been persueded to take the part and instructs the maid to tell him to come over.
